Introduction
In both India and Nepal, the Mithila region celebrates Chaurchan as a significant occasion. In Mithila, it is a very significant fasting for married women. Charchanna Pabni, Chauth Chand, Chauth Chandra, and Chorchan Puja are further names for it. It is dedicated to Chandra Deva and Lord Ganesha. It has a significant religious meaning. Most married ladies observe a fast on this day. As prasad, various kinds of food are prepared.

On this day, the Ganesh Chaturthi fast is also celebrated. The moon god, Lord Vishnu, Goddess Parvati, and Lord Ganesha are all revered. On this day, the tale of the Chorchan Puja is also told after Arghya is served to the moon god Chandra Deva.
Description
The entire day is dedicated to fasting at the Chaurchan Puja. In Mithila, married women clean their homes’ courtyards by covering it with cow manure. Following that, certain local religious images are drawn where the puja would be conducted using pithar composed of uncooked rice and some vermillion. On sizable banana leaves, various foods, kheer, sweets, fruits, and curd are served in the courtyard. After that, fasting ladies face the west in the evening and offer Arghya to the Lord of the Moon. Chanting mantras while each person holds a bowl of treats, food, curd, bananas, fruits, etc. in their hands, offers them one at a time to the moon.
Story of the Festival
One day, Lord Ganesha was driving his chariot mouse around Kailash. When Chandra Deva saw him, he started laughing out of the blue, which Lord Ganesha did not comprehend. Chandra Deva was questioned about his laughter. In response, Chandra Deva remarked that he was amused to see Lord Ganesha in such an odd appearance. He unveiled his form at the same time. Due of Chandra Deva’s propensity to make fun of him, Lord Ganesha became enraged. Chandra Deva received a curse from him saying, “Starting today, you will turn ugly. I know you are very proud of your appearance and that you look very beautiful.” You will cause a false stigma for everybody who sees you. Despite the fact that he has not broken any laws, he will be labeled a criminal. Chandra Deva’s ego was crushed by hearing the curse. Lord Ganesha, please release me from this curse, he begged, making an apology. When Lord Ganesha noticed Chandra Deva apologizing, he pardoned him. It was thought that because the curse could not be totally lifted, anyone who witnessed the moon god on Ganesh Chaturthi would be cursed. He will be accused unfairly. Moon worship is practiced in Mithila on the evening of Ganesh Chaturthi in order to prevent this.
