Ash gourd belongs to the Cucurbitaceae family and is a large, green-skinned fruit with a whitish inner flesh and a waxy coating on its surface (hence the name “ash gourd”). It is low in calories but rich in water (≈96%), vitamin C, calcium, iron, fiber, and several antioxidants. The fruit has been used for centuries in Ayurvedic therapy to balance pitta dosha and treat ailments related to digestion, heat, and inflammation.
